Last Thursday, Nordic Match hosted an Executive Seminar at the Langham Shanghai Xintiandi on the theme of “Navigating the Future: Strategic M&A Opportunities in China”. This exclusive event gathered CEOs and M&A leaders from leading Nordic and European companies to discuss strategic insights and perspectives on China’s evolving M&A landscape.

The seminar opened with welcoming remarks from Nordic Match Partner Tony Wang, followed by a presentation by Markus Dahlström, also Partner at Nordic Match. Markus shared both an overview of relevant economic developments in China and globally on a macro level, as well as a more granular discussion and sharing of his expert perspective on how to successfully conduct M&A in China.

We were honored to have Mats Harborn, Head of TRATON China and Executive Director of Scania China, joining us as a guest speaker. Mats presented Scania’s strategic approach toward China and discussed how foreign companies can continue to be successful in the market, despite intensifying competition from domestic companies. Mats also highlighted the ongoing construction of Scania’s new facility in Rugao, Jiangsu province, as the largest investment by a Nordic company in China in the past decade.

During his presentation, Mats emphasized that “China is becoming a leading innovation power next to the US,” highlighting that while China’s population may shrink, its economy will remain a major global force. “To succeed globally, you must succeed in China.”

At Nordic Match we strongly believe in our mission to accelerate and facilitate investments between Europe and China and are confident that there are significant opportunities for Nordic and European companies to continue growing and prospering in China and the APAC region.

With China’s economy showing nearly 5% growth in the first three quarters of 2024, and the government implementing supportive policies for foreign companies, there exists plenty of new opportunities for investment and expansion in this dynamic economy. Recent visits to China by the Norwegian Prime Minister and the Finnish President signal that Nordic leaders remain committed to mutual cooperation, trade, and investment. We hope that Nordic Match can serve as a platform for your growth in China and APAC.
