Last Thursday the 24th of April 2025, Nordic Match together with CBC HIP (CBC Healthcare Infrastructure Platform, real assets investment platform of CBC Group, Asia’s leading and independent life science real assets platform) organized the first Sino-European Healthcare Executive Seminar in Shanghai for both domestic and MNC healthcare companies active in the Sino-European cross-border healthcare investment landscape.

This event brought together healthcare investors and executives from over 40 leading companies to share insights on developments in cross-border healthcare investment and successful case studies on how Chinese companies and European healthcare companies can benefit from deeper localization and collaborations.

A keynote speech was given by Tony Wang, Partner at Nordic Match, on the theme of Key Trends and Observations in China Cross-Border Healthcare Investment for 2025. This presentation covered multiple relevant aspects such as an overview of deal flows and investment trends in cross-border healthcare investments, how European and Chinese MedTech companies can leverage M&A and partnerships to localize further in the respective markets, how European biopharmaceutical MNCs are increasingly strengthening their R&D and global pipeline through innovative collaborations in China, and lastly regarding how European MNCs can invest in China’s healthcare market by utilizing various fund structures.
Another keynote was given by Sean He, Partner at Novo Holding, on the theme of ‘MedTech investment under VBP through the lens of a European investor’. Volume-based procurement (VBP) is a policy impacting all MedTech companies operating in the Chinese market, and Sean shared extensive insights regarding how European companies can best understand the update and position themselves for success relative to the existing VBP system.

Hans Kang, CEO of CBC HIP, shared insights on how European MNCs can utilize innovative real estate solutions and alternative financing options to accelerate their strategic expansion in China, advance localized R&D and production, and effectively address supply chain challenges.

The event featured two panel discussions, with the first one being on the topic of how MNCs can secure long-term growth in the Chinese market. For this panel we were very glad to welcome three leading Senior Healthcare Executives who delved into the opportunities and challenges that exist in the Chinese market, and how best to cope with them. Thanks again to Meishan Jin, SVP & General Manager at Vitrolife China, Sophia Zhang, Managing Director at Diaverum China, and Samuel Ngai, Former Head of Danaher Ventures (Asia) and VP of Science & Technology at Danaher for their excellent contributions.

The second panel featured three senior speakers from leading Chinese healthcare companies with experience of operating in the European market, sharing extensive knowledge on the theme of ‘Paths for Chinese healthcare companies, from local to global’. The panel went deep into successful strategies and best practices for entering the European market, and featured as speakers Zewei Wang, Head of Strategic Cooperation and Investment Department at GKHT Medical Technology, Nancy Lin, Deputy General Manager of Small molecule platform at Porton, and Rosanna Zhang, VP of Strategy and Corporate Development at Acro.

This seminar successfully built a bridge for cooperation between multinational and local companies, offering in-depth discussions on industry trends and opportunities, and helping businesses clarify their strategies for localization and globalization. Looking ahead, Nordic Match will continue to drive cross-border collaboration in the Sino-European healthcare sector, working with global partners to promote high-quality development in the healthcare industry and co-create the future of the sector.
